Schneider's own country sites can show different commercialization dates and may expose different subsets of the recommended replacement group. Schneider's modernization documentation includes both ATV900 and ATV340 as ATV71 replacement platforms, and many individual ATV71 product records list both. We avoid a rigid rule such as "every ATV71 becomes ATV930" — use the manufacturer's reference-specific successor list, then choose by the machine's actual performance, control, communication and mechanical requirements.

Many Schneider ATV930 successor records explicitly describe the proposed ATV930 as "with braking unit." That still doesn't mean the old ATV71 braking arrangement can be copied without review. Confirm whether the old ATV71 uses a braking resistor and its resistance/power, the frequency and energy of deceleration events, and whether the machine has common-DC-bus or regenerative requirements. For true regenerative or special front-end applications, select the correct current architecture rather than a standard ATV930 solely by motor kW.
ATV71 was frequently selected for high-performance vector control and applications using speed feedback. A replacement assessment must identify the existing encoder/resolver hardware, option card, feedback voltage/interface and control objective. Do not assume the old ATV71 encoder card transfers to ATV930 or ATV340. Check: encoder or resolver type and electrical interface, speed/torque control mode and low-speed performance requirement, motor type and autotuning/identification requirements, positioning or machine-cycle dependencies, safety functions and any safety option hardware, and PLC logic that depends on drive-specific status, fault or control behavior.
Schneider's ATV71-to-ATV930 CANopen FAQ explicitly states that there is no direct substitution. ATV930 CANopen PDO data can be configured to reproduce the required data arrangement, but the ATV930 must first be defined in the catalog manager — the network configuration needs engineering, not a simple hardware swap.
For PROFIBUS, PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, Modbus or other interfaces, record the existing communication card/interface and PLC/DCS configuration before removal — don't assume an ATV71 option card physically transfers or that the new drive presents exactly the same device identity, profile, process-data words or diagnostic behavior.
Treat the old ATV71 configuration as application-reference data. Save the parameter/configuration information before removal, but don't promise that an ATV71 configuration file can simply be loaded into an ATV930 or ATV340 — recreate and validate the required machine behavior using the current drive platform and Schneider's supported tools (motor nameplate data, command/reference sources, ramps and limits, torque/current limits and control mode, digital/analog I/O assignments, encoder setup, braking functions, fieldbus configuration, application-specific drive logic).
Schneider FAQ FA371258 states that mounting adapters for replacing ATV61/71 with ATV630/930 are selected by frame size and let the new Altivar Process drive use the old mounting holes — the kit includes the mechanical adaptors required for mounting. But the adapter addresses the mounting-hole pattern only: you must still verify drive width/height/depth, ventilation clearances, cable entry, terminal position, door hardware, cooling and certification implications.
For some ATV71 references, Schneider's current product pages list an EcoFit Replacement for Drives Kit — the description can include the replacement drive, wiring combination, adapter plate and extended warranty. Treat EcoFit as a reference-specific option: availability and exact kit contents must be verified for your model and market.
